Ingredients:
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
Directions:
Soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk in a large bowl for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat to 350°F.
Remove chicken pieces from buttermilk and coat each piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
Place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through.
Remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a wire rack to drain any excess oil.
Serve the Southern Fried Chicken hot, with your favorite sides such as mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and cornbread.
Enjoy this classic American dish that is loved by many for its crispy, flavorful coating and juicy, tender meat.
